Draw Imaginary Worlds in Ink & Pencil
Freehand Perspective, Texture & Scene-Building
Turn the worlds in your imagination into detailed, believable drawings, without getting stuck on perspective or wondering where to begin.
From First Lines to Living Worlds
What begins as a few loose shapes and guiding lines can grow into something rich, detailed, and full of atmosphere. This is the heart of the course: learning how to take an idea from its earliest sketch and patiently build it into a believable scene, with structure, texture, and story woven into every part of the page.
You’ll learn how to make those early marks feel less intimidating, how to develop them with intention, and how to keep adding just enough detail to make the world feel alive without losing the freedom of the original idea.
If you’ve been waiting for a way to turn the scenes in your head into drawings that feel real, this is where you begin.
Hi, I’m Sam.
I’m an illustrator and teacher based in Toronto, Canada, best known for drawing fantastical places, hidden worlds, and atmospheric scenes in ink and pencil.
Over the years, I’ve taught thousands of artists and sketchers how to approach perspective, composition, world-building, and drawing from imagination in a way that feels practical, approachable, and far less intimidating.
My work is rooted in traditional tools, intuitive drawing, and the belief that you don’t need perfect references, rulers, or complicated systems to create a believable world. You just need a way in.
In this course, I’ll guide you through the same process I use to build imaginary scenes from scratch; from the first pencil framework and freehand perspective choices to texture, shading, ink, and the final atmosphere of the piece.
“Not all those who wander are lost”
J.R.R. Tolkien, The Fellowship of the Ring
What if you could wander on the page?
- Start with a blank page and know how to turn an idea into a scene.
- Use perspective freely, without getting tangled in rigid rules.
- Build worlds filled with texture, depth, atmosphere, and your own sense of story.
This course gives you a process to trust, so you can spend less time wondering whether you’re doing it “right” and more time discovering where your imagination can take you.
One line is enough to begin.
